Yahoo! Fantasy Feed: bringing social to fantasy

I built a brand new play by play system for users to follow their fantasy matchup - equipped with comments, reactions, and more.

Challenge

The previous experience for viewing the play by play of your Fantasy matchup was outdated, and didn't provide enough information for users aside from basic play details. Users expressed interest in something more robust, fun, and modern.

Solution

We built Fantasy Feed as the "timeline" for your Fantasy matchup. This would unlock new experiences for users including the ability to comment and react to plays, bringing an entirely new social system to Fantasy sports.

UX Research

Over the course of a month, we spoke to many users around their frustrations with our gamed experience, specifically on the matchup page. Following their matchup play by play was not the most intuitive experience and uses wanted something that felt more like an "experience" rather than just a list of plays.

Going Big and Bold

Using my experience on social platforms, we took the bold approach of going more "social" and visual with our approach to making the gamey experience more exciting for users. Fantasy Feed did just that. Users can now scroll a "timeline" - a familiar pattern that uses are already use to - of plays coming from their matchup and others in their league.

Unlocking the Future

Fantasy Feed unlocked a realm of new possibilities for the Yahoo! Fantasy App as were able to bring new social features such as reacting and commenting on plays. In addition, we were able to scale the product to the Yahoo! Sports App with plans to further bring the two apps together through this experience.

Outcome

Fantasy Feed was met with initial praise from users and is currently still in its first year of usage. Since launch in August 2025 for the NFL season, we've since expanded to other sports such as basketball and baseball with plans for other sports and games within the Yahoo Fantasy App.
